Surely then claiming that having a young, ethnic president be a positive thing would be of a similar mind to people like your father, except on the other side of the equation, and is merely another support they have built behind him due to their agreement of his policies? Would it not just be a weak support argument, rather than the central pillar behind their vote for him as you claim? To claim otherwise would assert that you believe these racists are more sane than their left-wing counterparts

I feel you may have a point.  It is entirely possible that that is the case.

As there are no surveys about why people voted in 2008, I'll have to extrapolate other data: A poll indicated that about 18% of Americans believed (In 2010) that Obama was a Muslim, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The only reason their addled minds could have reached that conclusion is through the stupidity of racism. This indicates that nearly a fifth of America is racist against Obama, which is reflected by my experience, which has included none who voted the way you believe.

I would venture to debate that the reason as many people “believe” that is because they dislike his policies so much, they cling on to what they can find that they feel is negative about him.  Like my own father, for example.

Just saying, I do know several 'democrats' who voted against Obama the first time around simply because they did not want a black president. So yes, it has happened.

Then I thank you for your insight.  :)

What ever happened to getting a new blog and deleting this one?

If I was getting asks on my new blog rather than this one, I’d be answering them there, As it is, everyone seems to be asking in this one.  Also, as this is my main blog, I can’t delete it.  I was trying to let it fade into oblivion, but again… asks are here.

Then explain what you're basing your beliefs off of.

Racism still exists, yes.  But I have never heard of any case in which someone voted against our current President because of his race.  has it happened? Yes, it probably has.  On the flip side, I have heard of numerous cases of people who voted for him simply because of his race.

Those are just my experiences, but what does one know besides from their own experiences?

I have yet to see any form of data or facts to back up your claims.

My exact words were, “I don’t think[…]” not “There are not[…]”.  And if you want to prove me wrong so badly, go ahead.  I will have no problem admitting that I was wrong if you can prove it.

Just a quick follow-up to your response to that other guy/gal's question: I would dispute you saying that he was elected in large part due to his ethnicity. While I do not doubt that some clueless bastards voted for him solely because he was black, I would infer that it's highly probable that an equal, if not larger (Certainly much more vocal), amount of people voted against him for the exact same reason. Therefore any votes for him because of ethnicity would be negligible, would you not agree?

I don’t think as many people are so racist to consciously decide not to vote for him because of his race.  I still hold to the belief that more people voted FOR him because of it than people who voted against him because of it.

Why is it that when a black or young person gets elected, it's because they're young or black? Yet if an old white guy runs for office, then they can only be elected for their political opinions? Just because you can't see past something like that doesn't mean the majority of young Americans can't. Just because a president got elected that you don't like, doesn't mean everyone voted for him because of the color of his skin. It's an extremely ignorant and racist thing to say.

Oh, hello there anon!  Allow me to enlighten you.

I do not doubt that there are people who supported President Barack Obama in the the most recent presidential election - and still do - because they agree with his political views.  I can respect that.  At least they are educated about what they believe in when it comes to politics.

What I cannot respect, however, is when an individual votes for a candidate based on their age or their race, or does not vote for them because of one of those reason.  It is extremely ignorant and, frankly, dangerous, to vote for someone whose political beliefs you know nothing about, solely because you wish to have our nation’s first African-American president.  That really did happen, and when I hear about a case of it I cringe for our nation’s future.

I have never said, “Obama got elected because he’s black and/or young.”  What I have said is, “Barack Obama was elected in large part because of ignorant people who just wanted a black president.”  Thank you for your question.  I enjoyed educating you.
